Renewing Our Shepherd Update

Greetings in Christ.

Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, School, and Childcare celebrates the good news of Easter. We have received great encouragement and joy in the promise that Jesus Christ is victorious over death. Alleluia!

A little more than a year ago, the COVID-19 pandemic started and created tremendous uncertainty and challenges. Yet we have also found blessings. We continue to share boldly the good news of Jesus Christ. We welcome new people into our midst through the ministries of church, school, and childcare. The work of Christ in our church community has continued and will continue. Thank you God for all you have done to grow your kingdom during a time when we have had so many questions. We praise You that Your mercy has remained rock steady during the storms of sorrow and struggle.

We have had to make many adjustments at Our Shepherd. It has been difficult to cancel events or modify events to the point that they don’t match our memories and expectations. Even so we remain a body of believers that are gathered around the Word of God, nurtured by the Spirit of God to share life together, and equipped by God to serve with our words and works. Whether in-person or through live-streaming, Jesus Christ continues to shepherd His sheep to live life together at Our Shepherd.

Remarkably, the Renewing Our Shepherd Capital Campaign has continued during the pandemic. By the grace of God, the campaign has continued to advance steadily. Campaign commitments continue to be honored. Here is a report from Dave Priskorn, Director of Operations, about what to expect this summer:

“Renewing Our Shepherd” Update, by Dave Priskorn

Thank you for your continued support of the Renewing Our Shepherd Capital Campaign! We are in full swing, with 4 projects planned to commence in Summer 2021.

First is the completion of window replacement at both facilities. Windows in the classrooms of the middle school wing at the school were completed in summer 2020. In 2021, we will see replacement of windows in the west wing offices and classrooms at the church, as well as the elementary and pre- school wings at the school. This will be a major transformation to these rooms! Most of these windows are original to our nearly 70 year old buildings.

Second, is the renovation of our 56 year old organ. Around July 12, the organ will be completely re- moved from our sanctuary, and the console and pipes will be transported and rebuilt in Kansas. It will still be a pipe organ, but the inner workings will be made electronic to modern standards. We will be without the organ for about 8-12 weeks. It will be one of the most fabulous instruments in our region when completed!

Third, the church lower level will be restored after major flooding. There will be new finishes for the ceilings, walls and floors, as well as general upgrades to the technology, storage, and other needs for the groups that utilize the space.

Finally, we plan to upgrade 11 classroom restrooms in the school building. This summer, we will replace walls, floors, and fixtures in these restrooms. This will provide a much more clean and functional space for the many children that use them every day.

Thanks for your continued support of the Renewing Our Shepherd Capital Campaign!Final projects still in the works include replacing the church parking lot and HVAC improvements at both facilities.

I remain confident and prayerful that we will have a strong finish to the campaign.
