Director of Spiritual Education and Service
My name is Dr. Mark Nimtz, and I am the Director of Spiritual Education and Service at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Birmingham, MI. I’m excited to share that I am in my 19th year here at Our Shepherd!
I graduated from Concordia Teachers College, Seward, Nebraska, in 1981, with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Webster University, St. Louis, MO, in 1984 and a Masters in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from Trinity College of Graduate Studies, Orange, CA, in 1993. In 2011, I completed a PhD in Professional Counseling at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA. My dissertation, Satisfaction and Contributing Factors in Satisfying Long-Term Marriage: A Phenomenological Study, can be found atdigitalcommons.liberty.edu/doctoral/485. I am a certified teacher in Missouri, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and Michigan, specializing in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
My wife, Wendy, teaches 5th grade at Our Shepherd Lutheran School.
Our children include Nathaniel, a graduate of Western Michigan University and First Lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in Vicezna, Italy; Elizabeth, an Early Childhood graduate of Concordia University, Chicago, IL; and Matthew, a junior at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI.
I enjoy traveling and camping with my family, the great outdoors, BBQing, guitar, antique autos, friends, and my faith in Christ Jesus!
